THE LOTO FAIRY, THE CROCODILE

From Mantua to the Sanctuary of Grazie

Periplus of the Lakes of Mantua in order to read, from the waters, architecture and history's pages The superior lake is the largest and the most captivating.
From the embankment dam the electric boat leaves and meets the big lotus's islands, it is the asiatic lotus.
On the left, Angeli, a typical coastal village, with its a Gothic church surrounded by the Valleya protected nature reserve. Herons fly high up into the sky with night-herons, kingfishers and stilt-birds.
The Santuary of Virgin Mary dominates, a Wunderkammer: 53 statues in dramatic gestures and a croccodile is hanging up from vault.

Maria Pellegreffi, a life-science student, brought in Mantua from Parma's University, her University, some rootstocks of Nelumbium, which had been obtained by some italian missionary in China.
She was engaged to Aurelio Zambianchi later her housband: with him and with the friend Elvira Zampolli in 1921 tried to seed the rootstocks in the Valley. Nelumbio found the prefect environment to grow and develop.
Lots of Mantua's and Grazie's street have been named after Maria Pellegreffi.
