Negrini's family.
Our history begins with Isidoro, Grandaddy, who built a swing-bridge at the
mount of Oglio river so that people could cross the river by walking instead
of boating across. For Isidoro, a 22 years old, this must have been a
profitable business because he was soon able to get married. He sold the
bridge and built a 130-ton wherry dedicating it to Saint John, the patron
saint of the pontoneers.
Isidoro used to sail from Mantua to Venice and vice
versa up to Milan with the help of horses. From the love relationship with
Barbara, Telesforo (1877), Luigi, called Nino (1884) and Sebastiano (1899)
were born. At the end of the XVIII century, the Negrini family entered the
Fluvial Society developing again the fleet with six iron scows, three
tow-boats (the "Milano" and the "General Mattei" and the "Mantova".
When
Isodoro retires his sons continue his work, developing the fleet to 24
vessels.

In 1912 Isidoro sold the "Saint Jhon" and moved in Governolo, a strategic
point for navigation.
In Chioggia he launched a 200tons wherry and amorously calls it Barbara, the
name of his wife.
The Mantuan Barcari Society (1912) is born with 35 ships but the first World
War boosts and Luigi himself is asked to organize a "little Dunkerque" and
to command 120 ships' fleet from Pavia to Cavanella for military transports.
Peace comes back, the Mantuan Barcari Society goes on with its activity and,
headed by Nicodemo Campana, it develops considerably merging also with the
Fluvial Society. Second World War: the Po fleet is wiped out.
We need to
restart all from the beginning, trying to repair if possible the sunk and
ruined units. At the end of 40s three generation of Negrini are on the
rivers: the old Luigi, his son Nunzio(1912) and his grandchild. In the
meantime, on the Po valley's background, an Alsatian appears. He is the
captain Jean Chaize and straightaway he availed of the Nunzio' s experience.
Both of them navigates with Imalù and both of them work to restablish the
Inland Waterway transportation recalling the Franch and Holander patterns.
With Chaize, there is his own son, Daniel who was twenty at that time.
Nunzio works with the Captain Amedeo Mazzocchi, with Valentino Giovanelli,
with dott. Flores Bovi to found the first School of internal Navigation
including also the son Giuliano.

It is time for the Route Transport to boom. The waterway transport seems
not to have any future. But we did not give it up: In 1973 we build in
Navalcantieri Yard our Andes and in 1984 its twin Andes II and in the
spring 1993 our jewel "Andes 2000".
We live on the Mincio and on the Po, we
transport thousands of tourist every year.
The recent joint-venture with Delta Tour makes us the most important
fluvial-navigation company all over Italy.
Nowadays our group boasts a seven-units-fleet which is able to satisfy all
your requests. The story is to be continued.
