plan 4 - for schools ![]() MANTUA AND SABBIONETA, POWER AND GLORY MANTUA > SABBIONETA (2 days long) The extraordinary heritage of the Gonzaga’s family, Lords of Mantuasince 1328 to 1707, in the city you find signs of the Leon Battista Alberti, Giulio Romano, Luca Fancelli, Andrea Mantegna, an extraordinary Court and the Palazzo Te. In Sabbionetta, Vespasiano realized since 1554 to 1590 its own dream of learned prince, enlightened: the city-state, secured behind the walls, with the Duke’s Palace, the churches, the synagogue, the theathe. 1st DAY - Drop the anchor in Mantua 10.00am - We are in Sacchetta di Sustinente and we embark on the Andes. We navigate the Po River till the water elevator, later, the Mincio, the Valley and the lakes surrounding the city. 12.30pm - We get to Mantua and we accommodate in the hotel. Autonumous lunch. 3.30pm - A walk along the typical street of an islands-city. It reveals that it had been a capital city for almost six centuries. Recently the city has discovered a Domus Romana, belonging to the Roman Empire. Its ancient Roman mosaic floor and the walls can be seen in the main square. 4.30pm - Guided tour into the glorious Gonzaga’ s Palace: inside the decorations by Mantegna, Pisanello and Giulio Romano. 7.00pm - Back into the hotel for dinner , overnight stay. 2nd DAY - The giants do whisper. The little Athens of Gonzaga. 8.00am - Wake up and Breakfast. 10.00am - Guided tour in Palazzo Te. A work of art by Giulio Romano and sumptuous rural residence of Federico Gonzaga. 12.00am - Autonumous lunch at the shaded park across Palazzo Te. 2.00pm - We move to Sabbioneta by coach.
